Our New Superman, Jon Kent, Will Come Out as Gay

Heads up, Marvel, DC Comics looks like it’s shaking up the comic book industry by having a younger, fresher face taking up the title of Superman.

According to former DC Comics artist Ethan Van Sciver, a controversial figure in the comic industry due to his connection to Comicsgate (a campaign known to fight against diversity and progressivism in the superhero comic book industry), “I Just found out, I got a little bit of a scoop about what DC’s plans are. Nobody knows, yet. It hasn’t really been announced, except by me. The plan is that… Superman’s book… I guess Clark Kent is going bye-bye.

“DC comics has had a lot of problems maintaining the trademark for Superman because, you know, he’s old. He’s an old character, and the family would desperately like money because their family, their ancestors who created Superman got completely fucked over.

“Clark Kent I guess is going bye-bye and they are going to replace him with Jonathan Kent, and then they are going to announce that Jonathan Kent is gay.”

Although the news came from a very unlikely, and unlikeable, source, the story potential for a gay superman seems almost limitless. With Clark’s best stories being a sort of god-like being with human emotions who needs to keep his powers in check, Jonathan Kent, who has the same power set as Clark, will be an interesting way to explore super powers as a metaphor to being LGBTQ+. Now not only does Superman need to navigate being an alien on Earth, but he must also navigate being Queer in a society that already views him as different.

But who is Jonathan Kent? Jonathan Kent is the son of Clark Kent, AKA Kal-el and Superman, and reporter Lois Lane. Jon first appeared in Convergence: Superman #2 (July 2015) as a baby. In recent comics he has done team ups with Damian Wayne, the son of Batman, who becomes Jon’s friend.

Rumors are that Clark will die in Superman: Son of Kal-El, Jon will take up his father’s legacy, and will also come out as gay. There are no leaks as of yet how it will go down, but it’s almost guaranteed comic book fans are sitting at the edge of their seats wondering what will happen next.
