I’ve been working in publishing for four decades, so of course, I’m a book lover. But the last thing I want as a present is another book. Or bookmark. Or a mug about a book or my book loving passion. At this ripe old age, I also have no wall space left for posters about books.

So what do you get someone like me?

I’ve been keeping a journal for over 40 years (yes, since I was a kid), so a lovely 5 x 8 book — lined our unlined (I love the ones from the Metropolitan Museum of Art because they are New York centric), https://store.metmuseum.org/catalogsearch/result/?q=journal (now 25% off!). Or a pen — I also love fancy ones because I still write my journal by hand.

I also love the New York Public Library, so almost everything brings back both wonderful childhood nostalgia about learning to love books and the place where I went to get them. I am truly fond of the Patience and Fortitude bookends, although they’re a little pricey at $175 (https://shop.nypl.org/products/bookend-nypl-lion?_pos=1&_sid=ab0a79985&_ss=r). I also love all the library blankets and do-dads.

There are two book-related sites that have great-shirts, Out of Print, which has the classics like 1984 and Handmaid’s Tale, as well as socks and enamel pins, as well as a 50% off sale (https://outofprint.com/collections/discontinued-last-chance-to-buy). My second favorite book-related site is Bookwares, which has great Christmas ornaments for writers (https://bookswares.com/collections/staff-picks?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=email), as well as candles and pillows.

And, of course, you can always buy a bottle of Writers’ Tears Irish Whiskey!
